The University of Texas Grotto

Jenny on a UT Grotto field trip to the river Styx Cave in North Texas.

Austin, Texas is the home of The University of Texas Grotto. In the 40+ years of it's existance the grotto has gotten the reputation of being the gateway to Mexico for US cavers. It meets on the first, third and fifth (if there is one) Wednesday of every month. We gather for our meetings on the University of Texas campus, in Painter Hall room 2.48 at 7:30 pm. The format is usually old and new business, announcements, trip reports, future trips, and then a great slide show. After the meeting we regroup at The Posse, a neighborhood pub for socializing. Training is done throughout the year. Usually we have a bit more formal caving, conservation, and mapping course set up for beginners starting in September.

Visitors are always welcome.
