June 13, 1963 Thursday
We started out at 7:20 (6020 mileage -- no, not a new car -- just a
turned over odometer) pulling our little trailer and loaded with the
three children and Gramma.
We drove to San Marcos and visited the Aquarena and took a ride on the glass-bottomed boat. It was a great deal of fun. However, by the time (10:30) we left San Marcos, it was pretty hot.
The Aquarena at San Marcos was fun. We went to the underwater arena and saw the swimmers perform. We got a fish-eye's view of ducks paddling around, we saw Blurpo the clown perform, we saw girls eating underwater and feeding big cat fish by hand, and then we went on the glass bottom boat and viewed the wonders of the San Marcos River bottom.
We got to Arlington about five, went in a commercial trailer camp and made camp. Then Bill took the children swimming while mother and I played Scrabble. We had supper and bedded down for the night.
June 14, 1963 Friday
Up and breakfasted and got to Six
Flags by the time the gate opened. We took LaSalle's adventure first -- a
riverboat ride with cannibals, animals, waterfalls, etc. It was quite a
ride. Mother went, too, and enjoyed it a great deal, I believe.
Mother stayed right with us, bless her, and did a lot of things today. She rode the skybuckets, train, and Mexican cars. The kids, Bill, and I took every ride in the park. What time we had!
We drove our own cars, rode the roller coaster (us), rode the horseless carriages, the stagecoach, we went to Skull Island -- oh, we shot the works.
It got hot around noon; so we stopped, went to the trailer, had lunch, then went over to Ft. Worth to see "Savage Sam". About five we went over to Six Flags and kept going until ten o'clock. Boy, were we tired!
June 15, 1963 Saturday
This morning we left mother at the trailer and drove over to Dallas to see Mrs. Lockridge. She is
in the Juliette Fowler Home for the
aged. She seemed very glad to see us, and she showed us all
around the home. She is quite proud of it, and it is very nice.
We then went to the State Fair grounds and went through the Museum of Natural History and the Fine Arts Museum. Then we picked up the trailer and mother and came on to Jean, Texas, to Aunt Eula and Uncle Jess's house and farm. The children got to explore a bit before supper and after. Then we all went to bed to sleep. We were a bit tired.
June 16, 1963 Sunday
We were up and breakfasted by 6:30. It was delightfully cool this
morning. We really enjoyed it. The children had a great deal more
exploring to do, and they loved every minute of it. They found a
tarantula, a soft-shelled turtle, some old skulls, and some other
delightful treasures. They were in seventh heaven, I believe.
