The Brooks Brothers have been leading almost annual trips to Caddo Lake since 1978. We generally have enough boats, ice chests and lawn chairs.
Now, this is 'roughing it'!
Imagine hiking through a forest... but in canoes and kayaks !
Visit Goat Island, Black Lake, Whistleberry Slough, Eagle's Nest, Turtle Shell and my personal favorite, Old Folks Playground.
Bob Brooks:
Sometimes just getting the boats to the lake was quite an adventure.
Bill Brooks:
I don't believe in the Creature from the Black Lagoon, but if it exists, it is in Caddo Lake.
(beware the 'SPLASHERS' )
The Largest flotilla to date was put on the water on the 1996 trip:
13 boats !
Our favorite launch point was a private camp on the western-most end of the lake.
New to our group in '96 were the Reichel family. 13 boats somtimes make quite a traffic jam !
UT zoology grad student, Nelson Guda, taking photos Tammy and Nelson Guda on the West end of Caddo Lake
Tammy being a bit too friendly with a turtle.
"Not too close, Tammy, or you'll loose a chunk of your lip."
Launching of the 1996 crew at Pine Needle Lodge.
The entrance of Old Mill Pond and the lake (near the state park). Fall at Caddo; the ghostly beauty of the River Cypress.
John Warren and JoAnne Chu. Taking a break on the woodland trail in Caddo Lake State Park near a CCC constructed pavilion.
JoAnne Chu on a grapevine swing. You can see all sorts of strange creatures hiding in the trees.
