When he retired, he was given a gold watch.  I have this watch.  I returned it to working order in 1998.  I don't carry it for several reasons.  One is because it is a family relic.  The other is that you must wind this watch every two hours or it stops.  That's why you always saw train folks looking at their watch and winding it.  Today, that's way too much work.

That's my Aunt Edith Bohner nee Tanner on the right. She was married to my favorite uncle, Uncle Pous. Pous gave me away when I married Bill. Aunt Edith at the time this picture was taken had moved back to her home in Port Lavaca, where many of the Tanners probably still live. I loved these two people dearly and went to see them occasionally when I was going to A&I.  They lived in the Valley but also in Corpus while I was at school.

This was an A&I College picture taken in Kingsville, Texas, after we became engaged in the forties. Bill didn't own a suit coat; so he went to J. C. Penny's near by and borrowed a coat for this picture.

The kids teased us about taking them to all the states in the Union and then, when the three of them left home, we started on our foreign travels.  Our answer: Sure; we gave you the cheapie ones---now go to the expensive places on your own!

Thanksgiving dinner with Vietnamese Students.
With a military language school in San Antonio, it was easy through our church to get interesting students to come to Sunday dinner.  We started off with two and eventually had six or eight for several months in a row.  We learned so much from each other.  It was a wonderful experience, even when one of the boys put gravy on his cherry pie.  (He ate it, too!)
